Ugne Lipeikaite, Impact Manager of the EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme, will attend a webinar hosted by the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) Statistics and Evaluation Section. The webinar is open to all, and will explore how public libraries in Canada, Norway, Poland and Sweden utilize data collection tools to engage communities and inform service planning. 

In this T-break for public librarians who have completed training-of-trainers programmes organized by the EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) team and partners in Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Uganda and Zambia, we will demonstrate digital skills training for youth, with a focus on graphic design, using the free online graphic design tool, Canva.

Iryna Kuchma, Manager of the EIFL Open Access Programme, will help facilitate a break-out session for policy makers during this DIAMAS project event on the theme, ‘Creating actionable policy recommendations and guidelines for Diamond OA’. EIFL is a partner in the DIAMAS project.

Milica Ševkušić, EIFL Open Access Programme Project Coordinator, will speak at the Beaming Open Science Clustering event, a full-day event to be held at the University of Novi Sad. Her input will be about the DIAMAS (Developing Institutional Open Access Publishing Models to Advance Scholarly Communication) project, in which EIFL is a partner. 

Milica Ševkušić, EIFL Open Access Programme Project Coordinator, will be among facilitators of the 6th OpenAIRE Open Science Train-the-Trainer Bootcamp. 

Iryna Kuchma, Manager of the EIFL Open Access Programme, will attend two conferences organized under the umbrella of the 2nd Global Summit on Diamond Open Access. 

The summit comprises three events with a common goal, namely to develop capacity for the advancement of an inclusive and equitable open access paradigm. The two conferences that Kuchma will attend are:

With digital technology, and changing reading preferences and learning environments, growing numbers of public libraries are integrating digital resources and devices into these services.

The 18th EIFL Public Library Innovation Award, for public libraries integrating digital reading and writing into programmes and activities that enhance people’s reading and creativity, is now open for applications. 

Iryna Kuchma, Manager of the EIFL Open Access Programme, has won the NDLTD ETD Leadership Award 2024, which recognizes individuals whose leadership and vision has helped to raise awareness of the benefits of open access electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs), and whose efforts have improved graduate education and research through the use of technology.

Milica Ševkušić, EIFL Open Access Programme Project Coordinator, will speak at the Open Science Day V conference, a full-day event to be held at the University of Belgrade. Her input will be about the DIAMAS (Developing Institutional Open Access Publishing Models to Advance Scholarly Communication) project, in which EIFL is a partner. She will also moderate a panel about infrastructure for open science in Serbia.

Iryna Kuchma, Manager of the EIFL Open Access Programme, will speak about advancing research careers with open science at the Ukrainian Open Science Forum.

Join this EIFL webinar with Toby Steiner, COO at Thoth Open Metadata, and learn more about innovative and community-led metadata management and distribution solutions for integrating open access (OA) books into the wider supply chain. The webinar aims to benefit small- to medium- sized open access publishers who are struggling to produce their metadata to meet the specifications required by different distribution platforms. 

Iryna Kuchma, Manager of the EIFL Open Access Programme, will speak at this Fiji Library Consortium webinar on the benefits of open access and open science for university libraries and academics.

EIFL staff and coordinators of EIFL partner library consortia will participate in the UKSG November Conference 2024. The theme of the conference is ‘Cybersecurity and Censorship’. 

The conference is a major event in the scholarly communications calendar, attracting a large number of people each year from around the world - librarians, publishers, content providers, consultants and intermediaries. UKSG is providing 30 free places for EIFL.

EIFL will co-facilitate a regional online workshop for editors and publishers of scholarly open access journals in seven countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia. The webinar is jointly organized by the Horizon Europe projects DIAMAS and CRAFT-OA. EIFL is a partner in the DIAMAS project. 

Resources from four EIFL webinars on copyright issues for libraries, that took place in September and October 2024, are available online. The webinars explored key topics that concern libraries - copyright and AI (artificial intelligence) for science and research; copyright and the commons (open licences); limitations and exceptions for research and development; fair use, fair dealing and fair practice. The topics were suggested by librarians in EIFL partner countries.

EIFL staff member, Jevgenija Sevcova, will train teachers and students in the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at the National University of Laos in the use of the E-Library.
