The financial sustainability of Diamond open access publishers

The DIAMAS (Developing Institutional Open Access Publishing Models to Advance Scholarly Communication) project has published a report investigating the financial sustainability of institutional publishers and service providers. EIFL is a partner in the DIAMAS project, and Milica Ševkušić, Project Coordinator for the EIFL Open Access Programme, is one of the contributors to the report.

5th OpenAIRE Train-the-Trainer Bootcamp

Milica Ševkušić, EIFL Open Access Programme Project Coordinator, will be among facilitators of the 5th OpenAIRE Open Science Train-the-Trainer Bootcamp, an intensive five-day online course for librarians, data stewards, research support staff and others who are currently providing open science training or who are planning to provide open science training for researchers, research support staff and/or students.

EIFL Open Access Programme Project Coordinator Milica Ševkušić will be one of the speakers at the online training workshop ‘Digital Tools for the Epigraphist’, organized by the Prometheus – Promoting Universal Values through Digital Epigraphy and Cultural Heritage - project. The workshop is co-funded by the European Commission under the Creative Europe programme. 

Ševkušić’s presentation will focus on copyright and open licences.

Training public library IT staff in Ghana

IT coordinators from 15 public libraries in Ghana will participate in a five-day training-of-trainers programme organized by the EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) and the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) as part of the ‘Digital Learning @ Ghana Public Libraries’ project.

SCILLS programme grantee meeting

Ugne Lipeikaite, EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme Impact Manager, will attend the SCILLS programme regional meeting of projects in Ghana and Senegal.

EIFL, Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) and TechSoup are partners in the Digital Learning @ Ghana Public Libraries project, and will share plans for monitoring and evaluation of the project with other SCILLS grantees Ghana and Senegal.

Teresa Hackett, EIFL Copyright and Libraries Programme Manager, reports on a recent conference hosted by COMMUNIA on two important issues that create obstacles to the creation of a flourishing information ecosystem: exposure to legal liability by cultural heritage institutions for use of copyrighted works and refusals by rightsholders to license digital content.

President Ramaphosa: Please sign new Copyright Bill

In a letter to Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, EIFL has urged the President to sign into law the new Copyright Amendment Bill [B13F - 2017] without further delay. 

The Bill, amending the 1978 Copyright Act, was approved by both Houses of Parliament on 29th February 2024, and sent to the President for assent. The Bill introduces new exceptions for libraries, education and people with disabilities, and it brings copyright rules in South Africa into the digital age.
