Technical system administration is an essential task for any organisation that is serious about building capacity to host their own open scholarly communication systems.

Checking server backups, server and network health and performing software upgrades are regular housekeeping tasks of DSpace system administrator. Disaster recovery is also a part a system administrator’s job.

EIFL has joined 14 other international organizations in signing a letter calling for universal, open, secure, and affordable broadband connectivity, with full protection of human rights.

The letter calls on Finance Ministers, who are taking part in the World Bank/IMF Spring Meetings in Washington from 15 - 17 April 2016, to support facilities such as public libraries to provide access to information and communication technology (ICT).

EIFL is delighted to announce a new 10-month project in Serbia, titled ‘Revisiting open access journal policies and practices in Serbia’, with the Serbian Library Consortium for Coordinated Acquisition (KoBSON - EIFL’s partner consortium in Serbia) and the National Library of Serbia.

The project will improve visibility of Serbian OA journals, and enhance their attractiveness for researchers – both readers and authors.

EIFL calls for ambitious copyright reform in Europe

EIFL has joined an open letter addressed to senior figures at the European Commission responsible for the digital single market. In the context of current copyright reforms, the letter asks that the Commission delivers on promises for ambitious reform so that copyright is fit for purpose in the digital environment, and that strengthens fundamental principles of rights to access knowledge.

The letter is co-signed by a coalition representing libraries, museums, consumers, digital rights groups, internet service providers and IT companies from all over Europe.
